Harriet Tubman
by S. M.
I was born in slavery in
about 1820 to 1822. I traveled on the under ground railroad. My two
sisters were sold when I was a young child. When I was 12 years old, a
blow through the head seriously injured me. When I was 25 years old I
married a free man named John. I met William Still going the under
ground railroad. I was called black Moses. I would dress up like a man
because I was so tall or I would dress up like a little old woman so no
one could catch me. I would sing a joyful song when it was clear to
come out and go more to the North. I helped more than 300 slaves get to
the North on the under ground railroad. I was a most wanted.
Who Am I?
