Charles A. Lindberg by M.S.
Hi, I’m Charles Lindbergh! I was introduced to the world February 4,
1902 a year before the Wright brothers flew the first plane. My father
was a congressman and my mother worked at the family farm. Both my
parents encouraged me to spend as much time as I could outside as
possible. My grandfather had a big influence on me. He always spoke in
a scientific manner. This made me approach questions with facts, not
how I felt.
Before my heroic
flight I was in an airmail service. After my heroic flight I was a
speaker. My most important contribution was flying across the Atlantic
Ocean solo with a plane I designed myself. People had tried before
myself and crashed or their planes did not operate properly. One
character trait that made me so successful was determination. I was
determined to fly across the Atlantic Ocean $25000. One place I was
successful in was the airmail service. I became the chief pilot and
flew between St. Louis and Chicago. Also, in wing walking. Wing
walking is when a person walks on the wings of a plane. I attracted
huge crowds. During my time of speaking I talked about how we should
not go into World War 2. People liked my speeches so much that I
got letters saying they wanted me to speak again. The greatest problem
I had to over come in my lifetime was when my son (Charles Jr.) got
kidnapped. Then a stranger claimed he had the baby and we paid him $50,
000 to give the baby back. He said the baby was on a ship called the
Nelly that was not to far off the coast of New Jersey. After searching
for days we gave up. About a month later we found the of Charles Jr. He
had been killed the night he was stolen. A message for the kids of
today would be try, try, and try until you succeed!
