Ruby Bridges

I was born in 1954 in the state of Mississippi. I moved to
Louisiana when I was only 6 years old. I am most known for being
the first colored child to attend a white school. I played a big
part in de-segregating schools. I had to be the only person in a
class. When I entered the school I had to have people with guns
around me, to keep the screaming, hateful people from harming me.
My father lost his job, and my grandparents got kicked off of their
land. Even the decision of going to school was really hard.
Also when I entered the school white parents went in and got their
children out. All of the teachers were not willing to take me in
as a student. Only one teacher volunteered. So she was made
my teacher. She taught me as if she were teaching a whole
class. I got through all of my problems eventually. And now
I am about 62 years old.
WHO AM I?
