Hi I was born in Miami, Florida  in 1927.
My father's name was Bahamas. He was a poor tomato farmer. I moved to Nassau when I was 11.Even at a young age I recognized the ability to expand one's view of reality. When I was 16,  I moved to New York to find a job as a dishwasher. Then I was a janitor in exchange fro acting lessons. I filled in for Belefonte, and that led to a small role in a Greek comedy Lysistrata. I continued acting until 1950 when I started making my own movies. A challenge I had to overcome was I made some controversial movies that some people disagreed with like "Cry, the Beloved Country" and "Blackboard Jungle".  Later I was the first black person to win an Academy Award. Then I did movies till I died. Some I was famous for was "Lillies Of The Field" and "Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner". Who am I?
