Into the Woods

Once upon a time…
There was a baker and his wife who wanted a child more than anything. One day, a witch tells the couple that the reason they can’t have a child is because she put a curse on the baker’s family. The witch not only cursed the baker’s family, but she also took the baker’s sister, Rapunzel, as payment for the crime the baker’s father had committed. If the baker wanted to lift the curse, he would have to bring the witch 4 things: a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold. The cow as white as milk belongs to a boy named Jack. Because the cow would no longer give milk, Jack is forced to sell the cow, his best friend, to buy food for his family. The baker buys the cow for 5 magic beans he found in his father’s coat. The cape as red as blood belongs to a little girl named Little Red Ridinghood who is going to visit her grandmother in the forest. When a wolf eats the little girl and her granny, the baker cuts the wolf open and saves their lives. The little girl rewards the baker with her cape. The hair as yellow as corn belongs to Rapunzel, the baker’s long lost sister. When Rapunzel meets a handsome prince, she decides she wants to leave the tower and the witch who imprisoned her there. The slipper belongs to a beautiful girl named Cinderella who wants to go to the King’s Festival more than anything. Cinderella goes to the festival and meets a handsome prince, but things do not turn out the way she hopes. Once the baker and his wife collect the four objects, will the witch lift the curse, or will everyone live unhappily ever after? Come see West Friendship Elementary’s presentation of Into the Woods to find out!
