About Mr. Cole	This is the webpage of Tom Cole.
Language Arts Homework	I've been teaching in Howard County since 1986.  I've mostly taught third and fourth grades.  In 2007, I graduated to second grade, which I am enjoying very much.
Reading	I have a wonderful class of enthusiastic students.  Although I enjoy being a classroom teacher, I am also very interested in working with technology in the elementary setting.
Author Study	I have a masters from Johns Hopkins in Technology for the Classroom and did an Internship at Bollman Bridge Elementary.

Primary Math Links	I update both math and reading links on a regular basis.  There are wonderful math links out there, especially to help with the learning of one's facts.   The whole concept of virtual manipulatives is also very exciting.

The Pezzetino Project	This tied into one of our author studies that we did earlier in the year. I am learning so much about good primary authors.  There is a wealth of good literature out there.
Patchwork Quilt Project	I have all the pieces scanned for the Patchwork Quilt Project. Finding the time to put it together is difficult. Be patient.

Reading Incentives	Pizza Hut is participating in a reading incentive program.  We also are honoring a monthly reader of the month who reads more than any other student.  Julia was our first winner. Stay tuned for more.

Vocabulary	Every Thursday we have a vocabulary test. Check here for words and definitions.
A Tiny Seed- a podcast	A Tiny Seed was a story we read as part of our reading program. We combined art and oral reading and a bit of theatrics to create this podcast.
Student Web Pages	So far, we've created the Pokemon Club which includes much student writing.  We will continue to create special interest web pages as the year progresses.
The Download Place(Password is tech)	I haven't been using this much this year because I've been emailing things out instead.  Dot Mac is a wonderful resource for creating a download page.  I'd recommend it for teachers.

Pokemon Club	We are creating a Pokemon club to give information to adults about Pokemon. The kids are doing all the writing.
Teacher Web Pages	The staff at West Friendship are becoming more and more savvy with technology. Here are a few web pages various people have created.
The Stuffed Animal Project	You have to know our password to see the students reading their stuffed animal stories.  It is based on a story we read called The Velveteen Rabbit.
Newspaper Page Webkinz Club	I'm just beginning to put our montly newspaper up.  We began it in October. We've had one for each month.   We are beginning the Webkinz Club in February. We meet every Wednesday.  In order to come, you must bring an article or story written about your Webkinz. You may also bring one Webkinz. Mr. Cole will take a picture of your creature and publish your article online.  We may also be be entering the World of Webkinz.
