The wonderful thing about good
technology and good software is that when the children engage with it,
they are indeed fully engaged. In math in particular, we
have used many wonderful sites that motivate the children to really
push themselves. It appears as a game, but they are learning
through it. They manipulate shapes, play with numbers,
learn their multiplication facts, compare fractions, and many
other useful activities. What once was done with actual objects
can now be done virtually. Yet the children get the same benefit
from the activity. Below is the Primary Math Page
that I created throughout the year. I also will have direct links
to a few of the sites that I found most productive. One of the
things that stands out to me with the use of technology is that a child
who has a very hard time focusing in the "real" world, will fully
engage in a virtual world. It is almost an ideal medium for the
attention deficit or even autistic child.
