Service Opportunities

At the heart of every religion is the importance of service to others. Service is important
not only because it helps others, but because it transforms the person who serves into a
better person.
The Bahai community of Howard County gives people many opportunities to serve.  Two
ongoing projects are the Elizabeth House and the Senior Center.  The Elizabeth House is an
interfaith "soup kitchen" that feeds needy people 365 days a year.  It is totally run on
voluntary support.  The Bahai community is presently serving whenever there is a fifth
Sunday during the month.
Our next time for working at the Elizabeth House is on
Sunday, June 29, 2003. We
will be doing both food preparation and serving. I only know how to cook instant pudding and
hot dogs, so I definitely need help preparing the food.   Actually, all we have to do is heat up
the food already there.  Food preparers should be at the Elizabeth House at 4:00.   Servers
should be at the Elizabeth House at 6:00.  We should be totally done by 8:00.  Please
volunteer. It is a wonderful way to practice your faith and help people.

If you are interested in helping, please join us.  You can find directions to the Elizabeth
House
right here.

I call this picture "feeding the hungry". Some of the
servers finally get to eat!

We had a successful evening at the Elizabeth House on
December 29, 2002.  We served about 30 meals.  We also
had a lot of folks helping. I'm so very grateful to everyone
who came by to help. Our next service time will be during the
last Sunday in March.    If you are interested in helping please
send me
an email. We will be at the nursing home again on
the first Saturday of January.  Contact either Leanne or me if
you are interested in helping there.  It is the holiday season.
Make it a time for reaching out to others.  It is what the
season is all about.

We had a lot of help in December at the Elizabeth House.
We had about thirty five people come in for meals. We nearly had that many people serving. Just kidding. But it was a great turn out.

Every Friday the seniors of Ellicott City go bowling. Whenever I can, I try
to go along with them.
Click here to see a few pictures of some
wonderful and talented bowlers.
Click here to see a few pictures from the
Saturday Plus program also for seniors.  We are planning on doing a service
project for Ayam-i-Ha on March 1.  All youth and children are encouraged
to help. It is a lot of fun.
